About this course

The MOOC for educators of Ageing Adults with Intellectual Disabilities is addressed to front-line professionals, within the disability and elderly fields, to gain knowledge and good practices about the specific supports that ageing adults with intellectual disabilities (AAWID) need to improve their Quality of Life and social inclusion. The course provides a set of pedagogical materials and several training activities to tackle the problem of social inclusion of ageing adults with intellectual disabilities.

The course features the manual use of My New Ageing Me Platform, and online repository of theoretical and practical resources to start supporting AAWID in your institution. The course is an outcome of TRIADE2.0 project, co-funded by the European Comission under the Easmus+ program through the SEPIE Agency.

What will I learn?

The course addresses knowledge, methodologies and good practices about the specific supports that ageing adults with intellectual disabilities (AAWID) need to improve their Quality of Life and social inclusion. At the end of the course you will be aware of the main concepts related to ageing and intellectual disability, the dimensions of the quality of life and know how to develop training activities to tackle the problem of social inclusion of ageing adults with intellectual disabilities.

Prerequisites

No previous knowledge is required to enroll the course, but it is tailored to professionals of social care and support to people with intellectual disabilities.

  1. Week 1: The ageing process of AWWID (NARHU)
  2. Week 2-1: The impact of ageing on the quality of life (HOGENT)
  3. Week 2-2: Methodology working with AAWID (IVASS)
  4. Week 3: “My New Ageing Me” interactive training platform (UPV)
  5. Final exam

Lecturer at the department of Special Needs Education, and researcher in the Ghent University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Expert in optimizing the quality of life of socially vulnerable populations (e.g. ageing adults with intellectual disability).
